Behaviour in the case of illness

As a guest in Germany, you are insured within the limits of a travel health insurance privately. The benefits offered by the health insurance are limited to acute necessary treatment.

Please note in case of illness the following three recommendations.

1. Please first consult the general practitioner before
you see the specialist.

2. Please pass your medical card “Ärzte-Info-Ticket”
to your physician before the medical treatment
starts.

3. In case of a extensive treatment please demand
a medical costs projection.

1. The general practitioner

The role of the general practitioner is getting more important in the health system today. In case of illness the general practitioner takes over the diagnosis and the therapy and co-ordinates further medical requirements. This includes that he assesses an individual case weather he should administer the therapy by himself or if it is reasonable to council a specialist.
Due to the co-ordination of the general practitioner different therapies can be better combined with each other as well as unnecessary double insurances, and the avoidance of applications of incompatible therapies. The medical therapies are better aligned and costs are reduced. These recommendations certainly not apply regarding the necessary visit of the gynaecologist, the eye specialist, the emergency physician or the doctor on call.

2. Ärzte-Info-Ticket

For your convenience you will receive along with the contract confirmation the “Ärzte-Info-Ticket”. It will enhance the handling in case of illness. Please give this important information prior the start of the treatment to the physician. Your physician can inform himself about the account mode and important coverage details.

3. Medical costs projection

In case of an extensive treatment we recommend to demand a medical costs projection prior the start of the therapy. A prior consultation over a specified treatment gives you and the physician planning reliability and averts misunderstandings. Your physician may fax us a medical costs projection. Your medical costs projection will be completed in one working day. In case of emergency please indicate “urgent”. We will consider within 2 hours maximum.

Prior the treatment some cases afford a guarantee of performance in written form as pre-condition for a full reimbursement. On this the presentation of a medical costs projection by the physician or the dentist is required.
